About Dr. von papen

Dr Michael von Papen graduated from the University of Queensland in 1994. He completed his general surgical training in 2002 and was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. Michael then completed a two-year post-fellowship programme in colon and rectal surgery and was awarded membership of the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand. During this time Michael focused on laparoscopic colonic resections.

In 2005 Michael was appointed as Consultant Colorectal Surgeon to the Gold Coast Hospital. Since then he has performed over 800 laparoscopic bowel resections for cancer, inflammatory bowel disease and diverticular disease. Michael manages all aspects of colorectal disorders and also offers open access colonoscopy services.

Apart from his clinical work, Michael also teaches medical students from Griffith and Bond Universities and has ongoing research projects. He has published papers in national and international journals.
