Sensitive assessment and multidisciplinary cancer care

Anal cancer is a rare cancer that develops in the tissues of the anal canal. Although uncommon, it is a condition that can be treated very effectively when detected early. Many patients feel anxious discussing anal symptoms, but timely assessment plays a crucial role in achieving excellent outcomes.
Dr von Papen provides sensitive, thorough evaluation and works closely with multidisciplinary cancer specialists to ensure the most appropriate and evidence-based care.
Most causes are not cancer, but early diagnosis is important.
Most anal cancers are treated with combined chemotherapy and radiation therapy (chemoradiotherapy), which is highly effective and often avoids the need for major surgery. Surgical removal may be used for small lesions, and surgery may be required if cancer does not respond fully to chemoradiotherapy. Ongoing surveillance follows treatment. Many patients respond extremely well, especially when diagnosed early.
