Minimally invasive and perineal approaches to rectal prolapse repair

Rectal prolapse occurs when the rectum slips out of its normal position. Dr von Papen offers several surgical approaches, selecting the most appropriate technique based on each patient's anatomy, age, and overall health.
A minimally invasive repair to support the rectum and correct prolapse. Benefits include reduced constipation, quicker recovery, and lower recurrence rates. Often the preferred approach for suitable patients.
Removes the mucosal lining and tightens the rectal wall. Often preferred for older patients or those with other medical conditions where an abdominal approach is not ideal.
Perineal rectosigmoidectomy for full-thickness prolapse. Another option suited for patients where an abdominal approach carries higher risk.
Prolapse surgery significantly improves symptoms, but recurrence can occur. Robotic ventral rectopexy often has the lowest recurrence rates.
