Overview

Gastroscopy assesses the oesophagus, stomach, and duodenum using a flexible camera passed through the mouth under sedation. It is useful for diagnosing reflux, ulcers, coeliac disease, and upper gastrointestinal bleeding.

The procedure is performed as a day case and typically takes 10–15 minutes. Biopsies can be taken during the procedure if needed.
